ofcourse they can. no question about it. we jes tend to tell our loved ones that we are in love even if we arent. its more like telling them what they want to hear. for example a girl asks her bf say once a week or so if he loves her. he knows for certain that if he doesnt agree there'd be a lot of problems arising so he's obviously agree.
